Picture this. It's a typical summer Saturday in 2015. At least, I think it's a Saturday. My nine-year-old self can't tell much of a difference between a summer Monday and a summer Friday. Every day feels like the weekend. My sister and I are indulging in summer's sweetest escape on a hot Arizona day: television in the air-conditioned living room. As two girls surrounded by the desert, we play the movie that is most fulfilling for our summertime dreams, Aquamarine.
The 2006 movie, a nostalgic journey that revolves around the adventures of two teenage girls and a mermaid who washes ashore, depicts my idealized version of summer: days by the beach, friends, and perfect outfits.
Almost 10 years after the summer that my sister and I watched Aquamarine on repeat, I find myself returning to the movie for a reason beyond mere viewing pleasure. This summer, I find myself coming back to Aquamarine for stylistic brilliance. Here are 3 outfits from the movie that I will repeatedly use as a source of wardrobe inspiration in the coming months.
Aquamarine's quintessential aquamarine dress
If you've watched the movie, you know that Aquamarine's seemingly flawless dress, which she makes out of her friend's shirt, is the dress of childhood dreams.

The dress's perfect hue of blue exudes summer in a way that only the color aquamarine could do. This summer, I will draw upon this shade of blue, adding Aquamarine to my wardrobe wherever possible.
Last Splash Dresses
In the movie, the girls attend a party called the Last Splash in flowy dresses. Claire (middle) and Aquamarine (right) 's dresses were some of my favorite looks from the movie.

The light yellow of Claire's halter dress and Aquamarine's sparkling beige are the perfect neutrals for building outfits, and I will consistently use them to inspire my summertime clothing color palette.
Claire's beach outfit
Another outfit from Aquamarine I will be taking inspiration from is Claire's beach look.
Her mini skirt and cardigan pairing is perfect for cooler nights needing layers.

Along with this pairing, the balance between pops of color and pastels is ideal for the summertime season.
With these three outfits to inspire me, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming summer, ready to experiment with curating the perfect style. Who knows, if I rewatch Aquamarine again, I may find another outfit I love!
Thanks for reading!
