Paris, London, New York, Milan. Surely, what do these four cities in different parts of the globe have in common? There's only one answer to that question: they are the world's fashion capitals.

A Fashion capital is no ordinary city. It is a city that has tremendously impacted the fashion industry as we know it today and continues to be a major player in fashion innovation. Fashion capitals also host the world's prominent fashion weeks, all of which occur bi-annually and are set to reappear very soon in September.

For those unfamiliar with the specifics of fashion week, you may be wondering, what is a fashion week besides being a week dedicated to fashion? Fashion week is a promotional period for designers. The week allows different brands to gather in a similar space and present collections essential to trend forecasting and style choices for the season.

Each special week displays a variety of designers and collections fit for the city's fashion DNA.

The creation of Fashion Week itself can be traced back to New York City in 1943. Amid the world war, American designers wanted to move their operations back home, and with the help of a notable fashion publicist, Eleanor Lambert, Press Week was created. Press Week was successful in helping designers receive attention from fashion journalists and eventually developed into the modern fashion week as we know it.

If you want to see more of what World Weeks offers, take note of the dates listed below. Many designers offer streams of their shows, where you can see firsthand the magic of a collection.
